My genius

A couple of days ago, I drew the following mock-up of a plasmoid for the nice KDE technology called Baskets (baskets is a program/technology that allows you to store all kinds of things, files, images, text, etc.):

And now I see that Apple has had the same idea as me, and that it's already implemented in Avant Window Navigator (dockish progam for Linux):

I swear I haven't looked at anything from the WWDC or read anything about Leopard before now.

Now I can really say I have never had an original idea in my life ;)

Guilty as charged

I don't know if I wrote the title correctly, but I'm guilty of not keeping this blog up-to-date.

For the last month or so I've been working at a hardware store (closest approximation I could find, we sell tools, paint, nails, screws, old cars, soap, etc.). I isn't always fun, but it's 14 USD an hour (80 NOK), and in one week I'm buying myself a brand new laptop: dual core 2 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM (which is overkill according to arthur, but I like overkill), bluetooth, wifi and the usual mumbo jumbo. I'm also buying myself a proper screen (BENQ FP202W 20" LCD 1680x1050 8ms 600:1 300cdm2 TCO99) and a drawing tablet (6"x8" drawing area). Oh, and the laptop has custom artwork on the top, I think I'm going with a kitten.

I've also been trying to teach myself some debian packaging, but I haven't actually devoted much time to it (one evening;)), so I have one package in Revu with a long list of improvements I need to make before it is accepted.

Another thing I've been trying to do, is making on my Gnutella client, Nugatti, usable. I'm currently trying to implement the most basic parts of the gnutella specs, and it's tedious work. I would add a link to the launchpad page, but launchpad is down for some upgrades. So I procrastinate.

And lastly, I've been accepted into the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, or NTNU as it's called for short in norwegian. So next year I'll start on my 5 year course for a Master in Computer Science. Fun?

I'll try to keep this blog a bit more up-to-date. I promise. A tiny-itsy-bit.

Ballmer, the man.

I just want to share funny coincidence.
Let me share a quote with you from our monkeyboy-overlord (search for monkeyboy on youtube if you don't get it):

A phone is really a general purpose device. You want to make telephone calls, you want to get and receive messages, text, e-mail, whatever your preference is. The phone really is kind of a general purpose device that we need to have clean and easy to use.

Thanks to Podcasting News.com.

Now, today, I just saw some interesting news on Slashdot:
eldavojohn writes "While other companies are marrying the obvious functionalities to cell phones (calendar, MP3 player, GPS, etc.), Microsoft is aiming for it to be your next computer. Microsoft Research chief Craig Mundie said that, "Microsoft has a research project called 'Fone+' that would allow the phone to work with a TV as a secondary display, and one that could allow video stored on the device to be played back on the television.""

He obviously knows a lot about what a phone is, what his company does and what consumers want.

Not much

Well, it's been kind of quiet lately. Been busy with finishing some reports in chemistry, and now I have paper on ethics that was due about a week ago in norwegian and religion that needs to be written.
In actual news, i tried Feta cheese on my toast today. Not bad. And yesterday we tried to put my friends computer in his fridge (he's been having some problems with it overheating).
